Ann Burkett Writes: Books that Bite Back
Ann Burkett is an author and podcast host whose stories crawl under your skin and refuse to leave. Drawing from gothic tradition and modern psychological dread, her work explores the darkest corners of the human experience — the fears we don’t speak aloud, the shadows we pretend aren’t there.
She narrates her own audiobooks, bringing each chilling tale to life in her own voice — no intermediary between the author and the dread. Whether you’re a lifelong horror fan or a newcomer to the dark, her books offer something that lingers long after the last page turns.

A LETTER FROM ANN
On what keeps the lights on in the dark—stories, sound, and the things we don’t say
There’s a moment late at night when the house is quiet enough to hear it breathe. That’s where my work begins: at the edge of sleep, in the rooms you swear you locked, in the familiar street that suddenly feels wrong. I write horror because it tells the truth sideways—through shadows, through teeth, through the soft footfall of dread. Ann Burkett Writes exists so you can find those stories in one place: the books on the shelf and the audiobooks you can press play on when you’re alone.
This site is meant to be simple: browse the titles, read the blurbs, linger on a cover that won’t let you look away. If you prefer to listen, you’ll find self-hosted audio here—no hunting, no broken links, no vanishing episodes. I want you to be able to step into a tale immediately, whether you have ten minutes or a long drive with nothing but highway dark and your own thoughts for company.
My fiction lives in the ordinary turned hostile: a family ritual that curdles, a small town that remembers too much, a voice on a recording that shouldn’t exist. I’m drawn to the intimacy of fear, the kind that doesn’t shout, but sits beside you. If you’re the sort of reader who likes a slow burn, a sharp turn, and an ending that echoes after the last line, you’re in the right place.
Thank you for coming here. Take your time. Start with a book, or put on an audiobook and let the story do what good horror does best: follow you out of the room.
Until the next page turns—or the next track begins—welcome.
— Ann Burkett
